Another amusing train moment – the guy in front of me is listening to ‘Macho Man’. I had to hide behind my book because it made me smile! …
Month: February 2010
There is something or someone in m vicinity on the train that/who smells like play dough. I appreciate this is a random comment to make, but I felt the need to share it. It’s an odd situation because in some ways it’s annoying me and is giving me a bit of a headache (not helped by the train heater I might add). However, the mere fact that I smelt it and recalled play dough is amusing me greatly. I love …
Last night, during my 26 mile round trip to rowing, I saw at least 20 cars with only one functional headlight or tail light. This was shocking in itself until a black VW Golf passed m on the A10 with one fron light and NO tail lights. How has no-one stopped them????! They should bash in their remaining front light and go for a stealth car approach… …
Some general thoughts / observations / niggles from my journey to work this morning: Why is there never enough leg room on the train? I seem to spend 80% of my journeys during rush hour sat at a 45 degree angle with my legs out in the aisle, or with my legs at bizarre angles around someone elses. Whilst it makes sure I keep my posture (to keep my back straight) it’s not comfortable! Who are the people who sit …
I love days when you can get up and do whatever you want, even if that is just sitting in your jammies with a cuppa Reading (or watching Sam play Lego Batman on the PS3!). I think many people will have these days on a regular basis because they a) don’t spend all of Saturday morning hauling themselves up and down a river and b) don’t feel the same sense of guilt for having outstanding chores to do. Having had …
There are some books which I could just read again and again and again. I Don’t know if everyone has this ( I feel they must) but there are just some books which I just really connect with, for different reasons; the kind of books I pull off the shelf when I need something to really suit my mood. The list is actually quite short, but varied. I shall elaborate below: 1. The Time Traveler’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger): this has …
I’m working from home today. I often work from home, typically a couple of times a month, up to once a week (although never more than that). It allows me a bit of space to get things done without continual distractions from chats in the vicinity, people asking me questions etc. However, there is a down side to it. You have to spend the entire day at home, on your own, in the presence of your sofa / tv / …
We raced at Peterborough’s Head of the Nene today. It has been perhaps the most dank and depressing today in ages. The bleak and bland landscape along the 5k course paired quite well with the freezing fog though. At least it wasn’t obscuring anything interesting! We were in a WSen.8+ and, for the first time ever in a race situtation, I was at stroke. I have been nervous about this since it was confirmed I would be in that seat …
Despite the fact we have moved in to February – and by simple calendar logic should have got rid of the January Blues – I’m still finding everything very draining at the moment. I’m not adverse to multi-tasking by any means, in fact it is how I tend to get through life. However, when I am multi-tasking at work to then have to multi-task work itself with rowing / training, looking after the house and seeing friends and family, it …
