I’m watching a program on BBC2 called ‘Secrets of the Super-Brands’. It’s a bit of a coffee-table-TV-show but at the same time, factual as only the BBC can pull off. It is looking at the world wide identity of Coca Cola, McDonalds and Heinz. It is astonishing the way these global (sorry, ‘Glocal’) companies approach their production marketing, well, everything. Coca Cola is one of the most astonishing cases. They want to DOUBLE their business in the next few years. …

I learnt to play golf today – real, proper, Tiger Woods stylee golf. Okay, well the Tiger Woods thing might be a slight exaggeration, but I did attempt the same sport as him. Sam, Sophie and I headed over to an amateur golf session over in Berkshire. It was VERY windy which made is even more challenging, but it was actually quite good fun. We started off doing a 45 minute session on chipping and putting. We then did 45 …
There is much talk in the press right now about whether people who breach super injuctions on sites such as Twitter can be prosecuted or not. This worries me. A similar topic of discussion even came up at the e-G8 in France this week. I don’t know the details, but being a keen web user, I do worry when governments start discussing any form of censorship of forums for free speech online. Twitter owners have already said that they would …
It really is the little things in life than make you happy. As an example, the little things that made me happy today: an email conversation with my friend; lunch with some colleagues/friends; two meetings being cancelled freeing up my afternoon to do proper work; coconut and lime cake with a cup of tea; a quick erg sesh just long enough to enjoy it but not truely hate it; a new washing up sponge; a cup of tea; sitting on …
It is SO windy today! It must have picked-up in the night. The poor plants on the decking seem to have taken a battering, although most don’t look too worse-for-wear. However, annoyingly the bird table got blown over; not in itself an issue, it rained in the night so the corner on the ground got sodden and now the wood has all broken off. Boo 🙁 Oh well! It’s upright now and sheltered behind a bush so hopefully the bursts …
At almost all stages of life, a person will never ever ever be without something they should be doing. Regardless of how well we manage our to-do lists (or whatever organisation approach one uses), there is always something on there which is the tedious job that never gets done. I am thinking of tasks such as ‘clearing out old bank statements’ or ‘re-organising the ‘stuff’ cupboard in the kitchen’ or…you get the idea. So, with that in mind, it is …
Every time I intend to have an early night, it always ends up showing 23-something on the clock by the time I actually get to bed. How does this happen?! …
The first week back at work after a holiday (even if that itself were only a week) is always tough. This week has been even tougher after our week off in early April coupled with all the bank holidays and last week meant that I haven’t done a 5 day week for about 6 weeks. I quite liked the shorter weeks too if I’m honest. If only it were possible to do those full time but without taking a pay …
I have said it many times to many people but now finally feel the need to commit my views to paper (or it’s modern-day equivalent!). PowerPoint, the presentation software by Microsoft, is the main subject of my woes, although it really applies to any presentation software available I’m certain. However, returning to the topic in hand, what vexes me is that software which was intended as a means to aid presentations has in effect become a tele-prompt for the common …
Sam and I have just got back from a weeks holiday in the South-West, most of which was spent on the wonderful Brownsea Island. We saw red squirrels!! See our photos on Revado …
