What would my year abroad be like today?

As mentioned in a previous post, we recently went to stay with a friend in Paris. She moved out there just over a year ago and it was interesting to see how she had settled in. Unlike some of my other friends who live abroad in foreign speaking countries, she did not do a language degree or year abroad, so this was her first experience of living outside of the UK. Whilst we were there, we were routinely online using

Oh rain, why can’t you spread yourself out a bit?!

A couple of weeks ago, the water companies declared a hose pipe ban.  A lot of the southern counties were in drought after months of no rain.  When it came to thinking about it, there really hadn’t been much rain.  Sure, we had had lots of ice, cold days and even snow.  But none of these things keep our resevoirs full.  However, a mere two days after the hose pipe ban came in to play, the heavens opened.  And it

Taking a little break

Life has been busy recently and thanks to a combination of the weather, a IT kit filled office churning out dry heat & the usual stresses and strains, I am feeling a bit worn out. So I decided to take a Saturday off rowing to get some R’n’R. I think that typically having a Saturday morning commitment makes you really appreciate the concept of a ‘free’ Saturday morning, because never have I been more excited about not having to rush

It’s London to Brighton time again!

Yes folks, for the third year running, I am going to cycle from London to Brighton.  After two years of cycling for the British Heart Foundation, this year we are cycling for CARE International UK.  There are a couple of reasons for the swap: one it’s good to spread the money around multiple charities, whilst, two, the BHF L2B got a bit too hectic for us last year.  The CARE bike ride is slightly smaller and appears to be much

My wordpress blog is live!

This is very brief because I am about to go and watch Jonathan Creek. But for about a week I have been busy working on migrating my blog to WordPress and I have literally just finished and put the new blog live. Hurrah! There are still some loose ends, including adding a tweet button for all my avid fans. But for now, I can survive without and will just enjoy the work I have managed to get finished! Hope you

Not on a School Night

We spent the bank holiday weekend visiting a friend in Paris. Yesterday, we went for afternoon tea at another friend’s. But about 7:30, the friend we were staying with started to get a bit restless. Shortly after, we bid our farewells and headed home. Whilst walking back, she explained that even when she has the Monday off, she feels restless when she is out on a Sunday evening. I found this interesting to both hear and observe because I am

Come on folks, let’s start listening again!

The other day we stopped for petrol. When Sam went in to pay, a group of lads pulled up outside in some pimped-up Corsa (or similar). One of the lads got out to let his mate out the back. Both of them had the notorious white Apple headphone cord hanging out of one ear. So, in a car of 5 friends, at least two (one of whom was driving!), were sat in the car with one ear on their friends
