Ah little H, It has been an eventful month for us both! There have been so many happy and funny moments. But we also had to go through one of the scariest experiences of my life when you were poorly. I feel like you’ve grown so independent in the last 30 days. You want to do so much yourself, without Mummy or Daddy helping. Yet your need for us to be there to reassure you seems stronger than ever; More …
Month: October 2016
I am very prone to craving foods and that’s what I’m taking this Day 9 to mean! Once I crave something, nothing will usually sate my appetite. Strangely during pregnancy I think I craved things less strongly than in my bump-free state! I have been known, on multiple occasions, to make a trip out to get something I really want to eat. Recently I have taken Little H on a walk to get an iced bun from the baker, a …
Over the last few months I have introduced a few monthly features to my site (‘Five Favourite Finds‘, ‘My Top 10 Online Reads‘ and ‘What Little H Did‘). But I’ve felt for some time that I needed one more. Whilst ‘inventing’ our lunch earlier today, as I often do on Sunday’s, I decided that perhaps sharing a monthly recipe might be the missing blog post. The intention is to go for recipes I’ve invented or enhanced myself. Hopefully it will …
**Soppy post alert** My posts usually see me grumble or moan a bit; Are usually sarcastic or cynical; Or are replaying event that have happened. I rarely find myself wanting to gush about feeling happy and contented. But walking to the car last Thursday, at the end of my working week, I felt a real flood of emotion hit me at the thought of seeing Little H within a few minutes. I found myself walking to the car a little …
Oooh, sharing nicknames is an interesting ask. We’ve all got them and I am no exception. I’m sure I’ve had more than I can remember but there are a few which stick in my mind. In the interests of full disclosure, I’m going to stick to nicknames from my youth or my work. But I think they will be quite enough as they remind me of the brutal streak running through all teenagers! …
A couple of weeks after H was born and we still struggled to settle her when she was tired. After a nap she was fine. During and after a feed she was fine. But nothing would soothe her to sleep. So since her feeding was fairly established, we tried giving her a dummy. The difference was astonishing and immediate. Having something in her mouth calmed her down and she would stop crying and just gaze at the world until she …
Welcome to my monthly feature in which I share some of my favourite online articles for the month. I read a lot of blog posts and articles online and whilst I share a lot of them through tweets, it’s easy to miss them and hard to come back to them at another time. This is a list of my top ten reads for the month, a mixture of formal news articles and blog posts. Enjoy! …
This week did not go how I thought it would go, by any stretch of the imagination. Sam went away on Monday for a 3 night work conference leaving me a solo parent for 4 days. I had arranged my schedule to ensure H stuck to hers: working at home on Tuesday, late to the office on Wednesday and day-off on Thursday (with her at nursery). But suddenly at lunchtime on Tuesday everything got thrown completely off track. It’s only …
Every month I share my ‘Five Favourite Finds’ for the month. They can be absolutely anything new that I have come across. The challenge: making sure I find five each month. Some months really do prove tougher than others but there is lots of fun had in the search. I’m using it to try encourage myself to find new things and also share my finds with you all to save you the leg work! So without further ado and in …
Did anyone else notice how a couple of weeks ago, someone suddenly started turning the sun on later and later in the morning. AND started turning it off earlier and earlier in the evening? The horror! It happens every year but yet it always shocks and surprises me. My head expects it to happen gradually. But it doesn’t. In a matter of days, I will go from admiring my garden whilst washing-up after dinner to realising my kitchen window needs …
