Oh H, you are getting smarter, funnier and more argumentative by the day. But there is so much going on I find myself laughing or in awe at what you do only to forget too minutes later. This list would be so much longer if my brain didn’t keep leaking memories! You’re really making us laugh now though. And you can be really helpful too – bringing things, picking things up. Often without being asked as well. But if we catch you on a bad day / hour / minute then boy do we know about it. Your growly shouting can either make me laugh or cry depending on how I’m feeling. Then the whining really offends my ears. Earlier in the month though I told you that all I heard when you whine is “Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” in my ear; I now make that sound whenever you whine and more often than not you can’t help but laugh and be your best smiley you again! You are, as always, my lovely big girl but there is no question about it now – you’re a full blown Threenager!

At times this month you’ve been an enigma to me my (not so) little one. You’re mine is developing at such a pace now that your astonish me with the things that come out of your mouth. You make some really insightful and mature observations about things. Your mastery of the English language also continues to grow no end. We’ve found this comes at a price though as you are very stubborn at the moment. Every bath time has become a Mexican stand off which results in Daddy getting cross, me staring blankly at the bathroom wall in disbelief whilst holding Zoe and you crying, declaring you want “Nana-Grandad”. This routine has even spread to Bubble-Sink days so pre-bedtime is not something any of us enjoy right now. But we’ve seen these phases before so I hold out hope it’ll pass soon. And until then you are doing more than enough sweet or funny stuff to make-up for. Although I may invest in ear plugs for the bedtime crying…!

Wow Little H, it’s been a hectic month but you have been on top form! You’ve tested us with a few tantrums but for the most part you have been hilarious! In fact, you’ve been so funny that I’ve not managed to capture even half of the hilarious things you’ve done. You had a virus in the middle of the month which was a shame, but you fought it off really quickly. Little Z has been lucky to have lots of cuddles from you too. You’ve really stepped into the role of being a big sister now. If I’d kept a note of everything you ‘saved’ for Little Z when she’s older, it would have a filled an A4 page! (It included a crayon, a yoghurt lolly and some of your new summer tops!). But onwards to the amusing things you did this month…

I have kept a Gratitude Journal since the start of 2016. Over that year it made a MASSIVE difference to my mental attitude; I now more naturally see the positive in things. My blog is a place to share thoughts and opinions. But more than that, it’s a place I record life so I can look back in the future and remember how things were. Whilst I will always have my private journals, I also decided to take a leaf out the books of other bloggers and create a monthly gratitude feature. Here’s what I am grateful for this month:

Top10OnlineReadsWelcome to my monthly feature in which I share some of my favourite online articles for the month. I read a lot of blog posts and articles online and whilst I share a lot of them through tweets, it’s easy to miss them and hard to come back to them at another time. This is a list of my top ten reads for the month, a mixture of formal news articles and blog posts. Enjoy!

So I was delighted to see a tweet from the lovely Lucy at Home earlier this week, nominating me for The Blogger Recognition Award. I love Lucy’s blog and I am a huge fan of the new linky she runs with Wendy from Naptime Natter – #BlogCrush. I was really excited to be nominated and that Lucy thought of me when compiling her list of nominations!

A massive thank you to you Lucy for the nomination and for reading the posts I share!

Lucy has some great advice in her own ‘The Blogger Recognition Award’ post so I’m going to have to try my damned hardest to come up with something good too! Let’s see what I manage…

It’s February 2016 and I’ve been back at work after Maternity Leave for about three weeks. One of the female managers who I don’t really know asks me how I’m getting on. I’m honest and say it’s good to be back but it’s a bit of a shock to the system and I’m still finding my way. She nods empathetically and then says to me “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t have it all. You can. I’ve never met any group of people more productive than working mothers.”. It was meant with a helpful and supportive sentiment and it was a positive thing to hear. However, I’m not sure if it was necessarily the right thing for me to here. You see, in the last 14 months I have pondered a lot on life and balance. And on that phrase that gets thrown at all new mothers:

“You can have it all.”

I seem to rarely write a blog post spontaneously these days. Yet the events of 8-9 November in the United States have compelled me to do so. Because, quite honestly, I am finding 2016 to be a truly baffling year. I wrote back in July about my sadness over the result of the EU Referendum (or “Brexit” – a term I am frankly sick of!). As we all digested the outcome of our decision on this side of the Atlantic, attentions turned to the US Presidential race.
