New season training has started

The new season has started and we are half-way through week 4.  The first week was an odd one because we were on holiday (doing some treacherous and traumatic hill walks in the Lakes!) but since then I have been trying to get back in to my routine.  It has been holding-up quite well, with me managing to do 6 sessions per week over 6 days.  This week I was unfortunately hindered in training yesterday due to work, but I intend to get back to double sessions on Saturday, which should compensate.

Today was also the first 5k test of the season and it went much better than I had hoped.  I really do hope this shows the training is paying off.  Because, one thing that I have been reminded off over the last fortnight is the general lethargy and fatigue that comes with routine training.  Of course, I am by no means doing as much as many competitive rowers, but coupled with commuting and work, it does sometimes hit hard! I am also at that stage where I need to be cautious so I do not mistake fatigue for injury, or vice-versa.

On a very positive note though, we have a squad training plan this season which everyone is starting to follow.  It is really important that we try and train in the same way to both re-solidify our feeling as a squad / confidence in each other, but also so we are starting to physically match each other.

Following my previous blog though, I am still looking in to nutrition and have already identified a few areas I wish to focus on.  Will report back for those interested in the next few days.
