It’s been quite a while now since I’ve done a fitness update – there has just been a lot going on and I kept intending to but never quite managing it. Fortunately, I have been exercising as best I can, even if I haven’t been reporting back.
Re-capping from last time, my goals were:
- Keep-up the pelvic floor exercises every day;
- Do some core exercises every day even if it’s just a set of 20!;
- Go to Buggycise every week;
- Move from postnatal Davina to ‘normal’ Davina (carefully);
- Get back on the cycle trainer.
I am please to report back that on numbers 1 and 2 I have been very successful. I am now well in to the habit of doing pelvic floor exercises throughout the day so I think that one can now be struck off the list. I also do about 15 minutes of core stability about 6 nights a week (I end up not doing them at least one night due to time / tiredness / other but it’s good for them to get a break anyway) and I’m definitely noticing a difference. I still have some way to go but I’m doing some more advance exercises now.
On the wider exercise front I have had varying degrees of success. I stopped going to Buggycise shortly after my last blog post because it conflicted with one of H’s naps. However, I acquired some new Davina DVDs (Davina: 7 Minute Fit and Davina Fit in 15) and got in to a good routine of doing those 2 – 3 times a week. I have actually only been doing the 7 minute DVD because I got slot in 2 – 3 7 minutes HIT sessions when H has a nap.
I went on the cycle trainer a couple of times in early May but found it a bit dull and tough on my knees. So a couple of times this month I have done something quite shocking…
Yes, I’ve been on my erg! I’ve only done a couple of sessions but the aim is to do one erg a week going forward. I’m not talking all-out erging like the old days. I am sure the rower in me will kick in as my fitness improves and I’ll try and get some good splits back; But even in my rowing days I didn’t relish doing a 2k or a 5k!
Over the last 3 weeks my routine has suffered a little because we went away for the week, then I got rather stressed out / overwhelmed with fitting in house selling activities and then this week it’s just been too hot! H has also been a little more restless with her sleep so we’re slightly tireder again. Yes I know…excuses, excuses!
So the focus next week is to really get a routine in place so I do something at least 3, if not 4, days a week (core excluded). It doesn’t matter what it is or if it’s only 10 minutes to begin with, but I need to break through the fatigue barrier and just get back in to it again.
Fingers crossed. I’ll report back!
