Reasons I am grateful #2

I have kept a Gratitude Journal since the start of 2016. Over that year it made a MASSIVE difference to my mental attitude; I now more naturally see the positive in things. My blog is a place to share thoughts and opinions. But more than that, it’s a place I record life so I can look back in the future and remember how things were. Whilst I will always have my private journals, in January 2017 I also decided to take a leaf out the books of other bloggers and create a monthly gratitude feature. Here’s what I am grateful for this month:

•• Sam got the cast off his hand. Whoop! I was so sure he was going to have to keep it on longer. He cannot weight bear for 8 more weeks. But once he’s got mobility back from being strapped-up for over 5 weeks, he will be able to do most normal things back at home. Including the drop-off once I teach Little H to climb into her car seat!

•• Little H and I went to meet one of my best friends and old rowing crew mate for an early lunch. She has a 20 month old son and usually he and Little H will not stay still when we meet for coffee. But we got a window seat at ASK in Hertford (plenty of cars, dogs, buses and lorries going by) and they were so well behaved for over 75 minutes! Lou and I got plenty of chatting in and, at one point, realised we’d talked for almost 10 minutes without paying much attention to the little ones. Success!

•• The weather is slowly improving – it’s that little bit milder and that little bit brighter. It’s definitely having a positive effect on our moods. There are also signs of spring everywhere now!

•• Following on from the previous point, my hellebore is back in flower! I’ve just bought a new one for the front step because I love hellebores. I really need to try and get some more for next spring.

•• We got a lot of our windows replaced last year. We’ve just agreed to have the remaining ones done and they’ve been measured up. Hopefully in a month or so we’ll be able to get them fitted!

•• Little H seems to have got through a very turbulent few weeks (during which she felt like a different child a lot of the time!). She’s still a trying two-year-old but she’s been her happy self a lot more regularly.

Happiness is stickers!

•• Little H and I went back to the local trampoline park, Gravity Force, a couple of Fridays ago. We had great fun jumping around. (Although, eeek, if there is ever and activity to remind me to do my pelvic floor then this is it!) Then we went up to the cafe for a milk / tea and shared a cookie!

•• On a slightly more mundane note, I’ve managed to keep on top of the washing and general house work. This is inspite of Sam being incapacitated and less able to do a lot of the chores.

•• I bought Little H a new batch of cute tops from Sainsbury’s.

•• I survived going into work on a Monday!

•• Sam and his parents looked after Little H for the day whilst I was at work. She had a fabulous time, ate all her food and slept well. She was also really pleased to see me when I got home which was nice as she’d been a right terror to me over the few days before.

•• I got a Thursday off in lieu after working on a Monday. I used it to full advantage and spent the morning on my blog whilst watching a film. Then after lunch I had a massage, got my hair cut, did some shopping then had a cuppa and chocolate eclair (It was beautiful – I haven’t had one in years!) before I collected Little H!
