Mission Impossible?

I swear that far too often at work these days I (and my colleagues) are asked to do the impossible.  We’re not closed to a challenge; something difficult is always not necessarily welcomed but at least taken on board.  However, everything I seem to be working towards these days seems completely unacheivable, and not just to me.  People who have a lot more experience and no-how have voiced the same concerns.  It’s just really infuriating that, despite this, people still expect things to do everything they want and also be lightening fast.  I believe that people should always have high-expectations of things, but I think these days expectations are often too high…
