The fear and worry of parenthood

FearTiles

This weekend just gone has been tough. No, more than tough – emotionally draining. It’s not all been bad but it’s been dominated by one thing: Little H has been ill. She’s not just had a cough and sniffle which we all know babies and toddlers seem to get every other day. No, she’s been the raging fever, won’t eat or drink, crying inconsolably type of ill. It started on Thursday afternoon at nursery. I got The Call on the

The chicken pox diaries – part II

Poorly Watching Peppa

The recap Back on Day 0, I spotted some dubious spots on Little H as I was putting her to bed after nursery. After a visit to the doctor the following day, it was confirmed she had the dreaded Pox of the chicken variety. Quarantined followed and you find us in the thick of the illness with one very unhappy and itchy little toddler. (If you want a blow-by-blow account then by all means pop over to part I first!)

Reasons I am grateful #1

I have kept a Gratitude Journal since the start of 2016. Over that year it made a MASSIVE difference to my mental attitude; I now more naturally see the positive in things. My blog is a place to share thoughts and opinions. But more than that, it’s a place I record life so I can look back in the future and remember how things were. Whilst I will always have my private journals, I also decided to take a leaf

What Little H did – 21 months

teddy

Ah little H, It has been an eventful month for us both! There have been so many happy and funny moments. But we also had to go through one of the scariest experiences of my life when you were poorly. I feel like you’ve grown so independent in the last 30 days. You want to do so much yourself, without Mummy or Daddy helping. Yet your need for us to be there to reassure you seems stronger than ever; More

That was the year that was 2012 – a summary

Yes, it is that time of year again, year end. That can only mean one thing, my annual review of the year! Let’s see if I can successfully save this one though after last year’s over-writing disaster! This year the format is slightly different – hopefully makes it easier to see the break-up of events over the year.

Blog Post 27-10-2010

Okay, the cold has arrived! I am feeling truely bunged up. Damn it! I hate trying to work when it feels like your head is in a vice. I have taken a trusty sudofed though which has eased. The train was stifling today and everyone was sat in their coats. I had to remove my jacket and my jumper! Then the tube was stuffy too, although I was having a little bop for most of the journey because one of

Blog Post 26-10-2010

I think everyone must have a limit at which they go in to ‘self-preservation’ mode. I have been feeling more and more drained by everything recently, with so much to do. Today, again, I am feeling really run-down and I think I am actually fighting a cold this time. Lots of people in the office have it so I really wouldn’t be surprised. Anyway, my usual approach to handling illness alongside training is to, err, just carry on training. On

Blog Post 09-03-2010

I got so caught up in my work just now that I have left late and am at risk of missing my train. Argh! I’m on a tube at the mo (this entry, as such, is tine delayed slightly) so hopefully I will make it. Been quite some time since I have completely lost track of time like that! I’m feeling a bit run down today. I have improved as the day has progressed but there are so many people

Less than perfect week

This week has been a bit of an odd one.  Last Saturday was the Fours Head of the River Race.  I had been training for that race for over two months and was really looking forward to it.  So, what happens, Friday afternoon, strong gales are predicted for Saturday.  On Saturdayh morning, Lou and I troop down to Hammersmith with kit bags rammed with kit to keep us warm and dry before, during and after.  On arrival the river looked

Work is definitely not good for one’s health

I think (although hopefully I will be wrong) that I am getting a cold…AGAIN!!!  I have decided that it cannot be related to my diet or my exercise regime because recently I have been extra healthy with my food and have been working myself very hard in the gym / at rowing.  No, the root cause of these colds is work!  Yes, that’s right.  This time I think it’s a combination of stress making me tired and a general code
