Little Z and the cloth bum conversion

After Little H was born, it shocked me how many nappies we churned through. After a few months my brain started musing over reusable nappies so I did some Google searching. Then I got overwhelmed by where to start and I just carried on with the multi-buy Pampers. My sleep deprived brain could not cope with the research on top of all the other new learning it has to do. But it was a decision which stayed with me and

When the Control Freak lost control

Before you read the title and think I’ve gone off on some ‘Bad Moms’ type stunt, it’s not that sort of post. As much as it would be amusing to go wild like that* it’s neither in my nature nor something that I’d probably enjoy for long. No, this post is not about throwing my caution to the wind and releasing control. This is about control being yanked brutally away from me by my two young offspring. * The supermarket

Your face

Little H, I was cleaning your teeth the other day when the sun caught your face. It made me cup your face in my hands and turn it up so I could look at you. To really look at one of my favourite faces in the whole world. Your soft young skin and toothpaste round your mouth. Your grey-blue eyes ever scrutinising the world. Your tiny nose wrinkling up as you ask me “What you doin’?”.

What we’ve been doing lately #1

It occurred to me the other day that I have stopped using my blog to simply just record what has been going on in life. Every post now seems to have a ‘topic’ which is fun but I want to be able to look back and remember what the day-to-day was like. So¬† I’m going to let myself get back to some general diary-esque writing again. Not least because the last few weeks have been a fun yet challenging in

It’s too hot in here! Waaaay too hot.

Summer Ice Cream Treat

At some point in June, the weather forecasters started talk of a ‘heat wave’. They say that every year, right. But this time some hot temperatures did actually appear. Even I was fairly happy to see them and we enjoyed not needing a jacket, the relaxed outside dinners and watching a film inside in the cool whilst the peak of the day passed. But then the days just kept coming and coming. Then the temperature kept creeping up and up.

The daily victory

SisterSnuggles

Yesterday afternoon (a Monday depending on when I post this), I was out in the garden with Little H and Little Z. I glanced at the clock and noticed it was 5:10pm. In my head I silently whooped because I’d made it almost to bedtime. And then I realised I’d done that and that, in fact, everyday I am looking after both the girls together I get that same feeling! Not because I dislike looking after them both, nor because

Tales of Little Z – 1, 2 & 3 months

HappyZ

Wow, Little Z, when I decided to start your development log with an update covering the first 3 months in one entry, I was sure it would be ages until I actually had to sit and write it. Yet here we are – you are three months old. Three. Months. Where on earth did that time go? And yet I cannot imagine not seeing your smiling little face everyday now. Whilst I was never one to say our family was

The arrival of Little Z

daddycuddles

A few weeks ago, we were blessed with the arrival of the youngest member of our family – Little Z. After my birth with Little H didn’t go as I’d hoped, I spent more time mentally preparing for the birth of our second child. The outcome: an experience worlds apart from my first labour. An experience I am keen to document before it fades from my memory. Unlike Little H’s birth where for a long time I felt like I’d
