Hola Little H,

This month has seen you back to your normal self. You are slightly more clingy to me than you used to be, but after your upset at nursery you went back to happily going in just as quickly. It was a real relief and Daddy and I don’t like it when you’re unsettled. You’re speech has cranked up another notch and you’re interest in things like schedules, routine and days of the week is growing day-on-day. It’s been a long time since you’ve tired me out this much too though, for reasons I go on to mention. But you more than make-up for it with your funny antics and affectionate behaviour.

Here’s what happened the month you turned 2 and a half years old!

It’s been ages since I wrote a blog post. My mind has just been elsewhere and I have found parts of the last couple of weeks quite tough. One of the last times I wrote Little H had been unwell. She got over her fever and seemed to be recovered. But we sent her back to nursery and she struggled. She cried when I left for work, she cried when Sam dropped her at nursery. By day 2 she had basically not eaten and had spent the entire day being cuddled. So I took the Thursday off and kept her at home in the hope that 5 days with mummy would see her back to her normal self. What actually happened was a stint of separation anxiety – something she’s never really suffered from before. It was quite a shock.

Little H,

Every month I am astounded by how you develop and grow. This month is no exception! I really cannot believe you aren’t even two and a half yet! You’ve done so much this month including a lot of growing and developing. The end of the month has been a little tough though as you got a horrible virus which has thrown you off a bit. After several nights with a high fever, you were then really unsettled in yourself to the entent I took a day off work to keep you home after 2 bad days at nursery. You’ve become very attached to me since then which, whilst I don’t mind, I hope passes because you’re usually such a social creature! But never fear, you’ve had lots of positive moments to remember this month too:

Top10OnlineReadsWelcome to my monthly feature in which I share some of my favourite online articles for the month. I read a lot of blog posts and articles online and whilst I share a lot of them through tweets, it’s easy to miss them and hard to come back to them at another time. This is a list of my top ten reads for the month, a mixture of formal news articles and blog posts.

May was a bit of an up-and-down month for me though and I took a bit of time out from blogging. As a result I did a little less blog reading and also forgot to save a few things I read and loved. So, this month I’ve only got 9 reads. But I’m sure I’ve had 11 a couple of times and these 9 are all fab so are as good as 10. Enjoy!

There are some activities which no parent can escape; rites of passage if you will. Potty training is one of them. You can delay it and defer it but at some point helping support your little person to ditch that nappy and not just wee (or worse!) on the floor is going to be the focus of your life. I knew as Little H approached two that that time was coming closer. But we had a lot going on at that time so I had planned to leave it until the spring. You would have thought I’d have learnt by now though: I have no control over what Little H does. The same week as her second birthday, she dragged the potty out from under the sink in our bathroom (where it had been sat for a few months so she ‘got used to it’) and asked to use it. Our potty training journey had started and I was not ready for it. But then when have I ever really been ready for any new stage of parenting?!

Yes, you read correctly – this a post about why I took my laptop away with me on holiday (in this case a long weekend break to Woburn Center Parcs) rather than leave it at home. It feels a little counter-intuitive I’m sure since holidays are supposed to be a time for taking a break. But if you give me a second to explain then you’ll see that is exactly the reason why I chuck (/ carefully slip in a travel case and pack securely in a rucksack) my old faithful MacBook Air in my luggage when we head away.

My writing view on our last weekend break.

Little H, we’ve had an awesome month doing on lots of fun activities. You have astounded me yet again by developing every day. I swear you spend more time telling me what to do than the other way round! You’ve also been testing me again so mummy has had to develop her ‘Patience’ super strength even further. But I have loved every minute of it. Well, almost 😉

I have kept a Gratitude Journal since the start of 2016. Over that year it made a MASSIVE difference to my mental attitude; I now more naturally see the positive in things. My blog is a place to share thoughts and opinions. But more than that, it’s a place I record life so I can look back in the future and remember how things were. Whilst I will always have my private journals, I also decided to take a leaf out the books of other bloggers and create a monthly gratitude feature. Here’s what I am grateful for this month:

Top10OnlineReadsI’m a litle late with this month’s installment due to a loss of ‘blogging mojo‘. I almost abandoned it but these posts are so awesome that I wanted to share them. So, welcome to my monthly feature in which I share some of my favourite online articles for the month. Nothing I’m about to say is new. It’s been said by others in one form or another countless times. Anyone who has been or currently is in possession of a toddler will likely relate to this completely. But I need to get it out so I’m going to say this all again: my toddler is driving me to distraction. Everything is a drama. No option she’s presented with is right: she’s tired but doesn’t want to sleep; she’s hungry but doesn’t like any of the snacks on offer; she wants to go for a walk but doesn’t actually want to walk! ARGGGHHHHHH.

Daddy had to move so she could sit on that horse!
