On Saturday, it was WEHoRR again so we were back down to the Tideway to race. I think, this being my fifth year at the race, it is one of my top events in the racing calendar. This year I was a little less excited in the week preceding the race – despite having a really strong line-up, the crew just did not seem to be clicking. However, last Monday, we had a really good outing with the second crew …

On Saturday, a long awaited event finally took place: I completed my first The Fullers Hours Head of the River Race 2011 (HOR4s or Fours from this point forward). For several years I have tried to race that event only to be thwarted at for one reason or another. In 2009, we trained and trained and arrived at Furnivall ready to race, despite howling winds and sporadic rain. However, after much waiting, the race was cancelled. I refer you to …
I am racing on Sunday and, as I always do, started mentally ‘preparing’ my kit on about Monday. In doing so, my mind counjoured up an image of my almost brand new JL All-In-One (AIO) which I bought in the spring when we changed our club strip. I won’t lie, I was rather excited at the prospect of wearing it again. I worry at this point that I may have said too much and you may already be judging me, …
It’s WeHoRR tomorrow! Eeek! Time has gone so fast, I cannot believe it. In some ways that is good because I have dwelled on the race too much. However, the reality is hitting home and those pre-race nerves are arriving. I think my body has been well aware of it because I have been very lethargic all day. If it thinks it’s going to get out of it though… 😉 The race doesn’t start until 3:30pm, with our boating slot …
So, I raced yesterday. It went quite well, especially considering the massive gap since my last race! I was zonked when I got home but I then had to log on and work at 6:30pm. My tests were done by 7:10pm but there were some issues so I ended-up logged on until 9pm waiting around on people mostly before some last minute work at 8:30pm. This morning I had to be in the office for 7:30am because we were going …
What a busy week! I feel like it’s been non-stop. Monday: work & rowing; Tuesday: work, training, on call &rowing admin; Wednesday: away to Odney with work (Chinese, wine & meeting new team); Thursday: team building day, travelling home, emergency on-call to cover JJ; Friday: work, dinner, chill with film! The overnight visit to Odney was good. It was great to start getting involved with my new project and meeting the (very large) team of people. I am really raring …
It’s Monday again! But this week I am not feeling as tired as the last, which is good. I had one of those glorious moments this morning where I woke-up as then discovered I still had 45mins left until the 6am alarm. It would have been nicer if it were 90mins, but I’ll take what I can get! Blackbird was wide awake when we got up this morning and he provided the soundtrack for Sam and I getting ready. It …
