Slow living – how it’s helped me do less to accomplish more

Over three years ago now, I read about a concept called ‘Slow Parenting’ – a topic which I researched quite a lot and wrote a blog post about at the time. The premise is about not feeling the need to over-schedule our children and give them time to just ‘be’. It’s something that has stayed with me ever since then and an approach I have become more and more converted to since becoming a mother for a second time. With

The turmoil of our holiday to Lisbon

lisbon

Last Wednesday I left work feeling very chipper. I was off work for over a week, my first holiday since going back to work from Maternity Leave. SO EXCITING! We were all scheduled for a long weekend break with my Dad and Sister in Lisbon – somewhere I had always wanted to go. It was to be H’s first trip abroad. I had planned for most eventualities. But the reality was even more stressful and exhausting than anticipated – H

Not on a School Night

We spent the bank holiday weekend visiting a friend in Paris. Yesterday, we went for afternoon tea at another friend’s. But about 7:30, the friend we were staying with started to get a bit restless. Shortly after, we bid our farewells and headed home. Whilst walking back, she explained that even when she has the Monday off, she feels restless when she is out on a Sunday evening. I found this interesting to both hear and observe because I am

Year Of Calm meet Steering The Double

Tonight was my first outing in the double with Lou since, ooh, errr, about October. So, much time has passed since I have been in a boat that small, let alone been responsible for steering it! As I am fairly sure I mentioned in blog posts earlier in the year, 2012 is the year I am trying to make myself calmer. This basically means that when a situation is angsty or stressful, I just take a deep breath and get

The calm with no storm, oh and a trip to Parliament

My 2012 plan of staying calm is going well. This has been a trying week I will not lie. However, I have not fallen off the wagon – there was just a slight low-pressure front which caused me to wobble a bit 😉 However, I have been remembering to call upon my trusty iPod and cheery tunage to perk me up if I reach a tense point. My current ‘top’ motivational tune is Domino by Jessie J, amongst other things.

2012 – the New Year Plan

The Christmas and New Year period disappears quite quickly one the two ‘big days’ are over and done with. It is hard to believe that this time last week was the first day of a brand new year. I went back to work on Tuesday and after about 3/4 of a day, normal service resumed and any thoughts of festive cheer or relaxed afternoons curled up on the sofa were long gone. This is not completely a bad thing because

Blog Post 17-02-2011

There is a small blackbird that lives in the tree in my neighbours front garden. He has built a little nest ready for when he finds a lady blackbird and he spends the whole morning singing away. Now that it is lighter when I leave, he is already up and about, singing his morning song. It’s such a lovely thing to hear as I head off to work. There is something wonderfully pure about a little bird singing that makes

Small mountain from medium sized mole hill

We went to Leeds this weekend to visit some friends. åÊI was a litle concerned about getting there and back again because for the past 10 days, all the trains have been severely messed up because of the snow and ice. åÊWe were lucky though because despite a 30 min delay on the way there, we had no delay on the way back and managed to make our connection at Stevenage even though we only had a 4 min gap
