The chicken pox diaries, part I

Day 0 Little H is splashing around in the bath after a busy day at nursery. I come in to get her out and my Mum-Senses are immediately drawn to some spots on her shoulders, lower tummy and back. Much to her annoyance I proceed to examine them. I’ve convinced myself Little H has chicken pox on several occasions that turned out to be nothing. This time though, my instincts tell me this was the real deal. Without a doubt

30 Days Blogging – Day 13: TV shows I’ll happily get square eyes for!

30DaysBlogging13

My-oh-my, I’ve watched some terrible TV programmes over the years. But, as with anything, it takes practice to become an expert at something. Learning select top telly viewage is no different. Haha! Of course, everything is subjective so if you ask Sam his opinion on some of these, I’m sure he’ll scoff. Time is in short supply now I’m the mum of a small though, so if I’m going to find the time to plonk my bottom on the sofa

TV – when did it all become quantity over quality?

In the last few months, Sam and I have abandoned several TV series we were watching mid-season simply because we had just got bored with the ‘commitment’ they needed. The two most recent examples are ‘Homeland‘¬†and ‘Downton Abbey‘; The latter we stopped watching after one of the most dramatic episodes seen in some time (Series 4, Episode 3). We were shocked by the episode but couldn’t summon the enthusiasm to sit through more hours of Upper Class moping to see

The one with all the Friends re-runs

I can still remember the day, in 2004, when ‘Friends’ finally came to an end. It was momentous day; The sitcom, in it’s tenth season at that point, had seen me through all of my teenage years and university. In fact, I watched the final episode sat with all my friends in Dave’s room (he had the big TV) during our final year at Durham. We all had a cuppa and we squashed on the bed – it was a

When did Bank Holiday TV stop being special?

I have fond memories of Bank Holidays from when I was growing-up. In these memories, we are usually sat around on the sofa, with a cup of tea, watching an Indiana Jones or Star Wars film on the telly. I’m sure it wasn’t quite like that every time (the fact it is always sunny in my memory tells me there is an element of surrealism to my past visions) but we definitely used to spent the afternoon or evening enjoying

Why do people not practice what they preach?

More and more often these days I find myself getting frustrated at people who say one thing yet do another. I am by no means innocent, no-one is I would suspect. I would probably say my typical failing is judging people for watching ‘trash TV’ when they get excited about X-Factor, only to get excited when I catch half an episode of ‘A Place in the Sun: Home or Away’! However, there is one thing that really, really, really bugs

Would you want to be on The Apprentice?!

So I watched The Apprentice last night and it got me thinking about something I think about  every year – why would they want to work with him?  Now, I would like to state up-front that I am well aware that it is television program and that the primary objective is to entertain.  However, I just question why some of these peple would actually want to work with Alan Sugar.  Sorry, Lord Sugar. I have often observed that it is

Blog Post 03-01-2011

Ok, so exciting news. Yesterday evening I decided to indulge in a Series 4 Dr Who episode. Turns out the first episode you get in the series is the Kylie Christmas special! It seems I got my episodes in a jumble – silly me. Anyhow, this means I do have, in my eyes, the complete Dr Who collection! I might watch one now in fact with a nice hot cup of tea – such fun!
