30 Days Blogging – Day 11: favourite foods!

I love food. Eating is one of my absolute favourite things. For the most part I like healthy and fresh food but I am partial to the odd take-away curry too! If I could I think I would eat most of the time. I need to snack regularly otherwise I get grumpy. But I have to pay continual attention to what I eat these days because I don’t manage to exercise as much as I used to; Back in my

Welcome to my monthly feature in which I share some of my favourite online articles for the month. I read a lot of blog posts and articles online and whilst I share a lot of them through tweets, it’s easy to miss them and hard to come back to them at another time. This is a list of my top ten reads for the month, a mixture of formal news articles and blog posts. Enjoy!

The first garden session of the spring

Last week I was feeling a bit fed-up about the state of the garden and the fact I couldn’t get out to do anything. But the weather has really picked up over the last week and some of the days have been delightfully sunny. Yesterday was one such day and when H went for her afternoon nap it was the optimal temperature (about 12 degrees in the shade) for gardening. Cut lawn and edged borders. A step forward!

Weaning is tough work but sleeping-through is in sight!

We’ve been weaning for about a month now and it’s going well I think. H is now on three meals a day plus a mid-morning yoghurt and fruit snack. She has dropped down her milk feeds so she is only really having a morning, mid-afternoon and bedtime milk feed. Despite this, the amount she eats is really quite phenomenal given her size. Today she ate: 7am: Milk feed 8am: Ready Brek with apple puree and two buttered toast sticks (no

A quick garden update

I’ve been quite quiet on the blog front for the last fortnight because, whenever possible, I have been spending a lot of my spare time in the garden. It’s really starting to take shape for the summer and some of the ‘improvement’ and ‘tidying’ work we have been doing means it’s looking better than ever. I finished shaping the beds near the house and put in some extra bedding plants. I massively tidied-up the back of the garden and planted

First good weekend of 2014 = lots of garden time!

When we woke-up on Saturday, it was bit overcast. But it was dry and it wasn’t excessively windy so overcast was a great outcome compared to recent weekends. Sam ‘slummed it’ back on his mountain bike and came with me on a 10 mile bike ride (to help me prepare for a 38-miler at the start of April…*gulp*) and whilst we were out, the sun broke through. The result…the best weekend of the year so far. I spent most of

Vegetarian Lasagne with Butternut Squash

My in-laws were coming round last weekend and I needed to make something for lunch. I had also, in error, opened a tin of chopped tomatoes so the the aforementioned lunch needed to make use of those! So, I decided to make a variation of my normal veggie lasagne. It worked really well and was well received. So, in keeping with my recent bout of food-based-blog-posts, here’s how to recreate it yourselves! Ingredients Tomato Sauce: 1 diced red onion, 3

Some Sunday baking

I go through phases with baking; For weeks I will have no interest in doing it at all, then I will suddenly want to make several things in one session. Today was one of those days and I wanted to try a new recipe too. I made a batch of my usual cheese scones and followed it up with a courgette cake! My Mum made a chocolate courgette cake years ago and I have always been meaning to try it.

Blog Post 10-04-2011

Our week off is over – boo! 🙁 However, I cannot complain because we had an awesome time on the boaty-boat (aka narrow boat) with Lou & Graham. We also had some fantastic weather from Wed onwards. It has made the last few days at home really enjoyable too. The gardens (front & back) are looking pretty spiffing for this stage in the year so I am going back to work happy. Have forgotten to water my courgettes though. Darn
