What we’ve been doing lately #5

Time really does fly between these updates. It’s been almost a month since update #4 and now but I can’t really believe it. As always, life has been busy. But it’s been much less hectic in terms of travel. After several long distance trips over the last few months, this month we stayed at home and I was quite happy about that! In fact, when Sam went away for a few nights with work (more on that later), it seemed

What Little H did – 3.3 years

Pigtails

Wow Little H, it’s been a hectic month but you have been on top form! You’ve tested us with a few tantrums but for the most part you have been hilarious! In fact, you’ve been so funny that I’ve not managed to capture even half of the hilarious things you’ve done. You had a virus in the middle of the month which was a shame, but you fought it off really quickly. Little Z has been lucky to have lots

Reasons I am grateful #5

I have kept a Gratitude Journal since the start of 2016. Over that year it made a MASSIVE difference to my mental attitude; I now more naturally see the positive in things. My blog is a place to share thoughts and opinions. But more than that, it’s a place I record life so I can look back in the future and remember how things were. Whilst I will always have my private journals, I also decided to take a leaf

Whipsnade Zoo – an awesome animal experience!

As a young child, my family and I lived in Berkshire (we moved back to my native homeground in The North when I was 12). One of my favourite treat outings as a kid was to Whipsnade Zoo. I have such fond memories of seeing all of the animals there. So you can imagine my delight when almost two decades later I discovered it was only a 40 minute drive from where we live in Hertfordshire. And now I’m a

What Little H did – 20 months

wellies

My lovely little H, Yet another month has passed. Every month I think you can’t possible do as much as the one before, yet you continue to amaze me. Somewhere during this last few weeks I realised calling you ‘Mini H’ seemed wrong; So ‘Little H’ you now are. You discover a new word or skill everyday and I can’t and don’t want to keep up. But there is no stopping you so all I can do is take pleasure

Holiday time – our 2 week ‘staycation’

planters2

A few years ago, Sam and I learnt the value in taking two solid weeks off work. We now do it annually, usually in September. For 2016, that fortnight has just come to an end and we had a lovely time. “Where did they go?” you might wonder. Well actually we didn’t go anywhere. We took the term ‘staycation’ very literally and stayed at home for two whole weeks. Two. Whole. Weeks. It was wonderful!

That was the year that was 2013 – a summary

So another year has gone by and more so than ever before, it feels like it has flown by. Following last year’s structure, I have broken the year-up by month and called out the top highlights (of varying degrees of interest!) for each. I decided to start this entry with a new section though – some ‘Of the Year’ callouts – it’s the sort of information you quickly forget and I wish I had for the last 4+ years, but

Keeper for a Day!

So, on Friday just gone I headed to Whipsnade Zoo near Dunstable to take part in my birthday present from Sam: a ‘Keeper for a Day‘ experience. I was very excited. I was in a group of five plus Rosie, our ‘guide’, who is also a keeper in the Asia section of the park. We met just inside the zoo at 8:45am, before the zoo was open to the public and we went through our itinerary over breakfast – it

From cold to hot in, almost, the blink of an eye

The weather this year has been pretty uninspiring on the whole. The winter saw us on a repeated loop through cold > snow > rain > glimmer of hope from February through to May. In early June, things started to perk up a bit, but with temperatures still sitting in the low teens. Suddenly though, less than a fortnight ago, the sun arrived. Now, my it is scorching! So much so that we seem to be at the other end
