Canal boats are a common sight on any canal or small river. Being a rower, I see them several times a week and we have always had a fairly ominous relationship with them, generally because they get in our way! However, after hearing some fairly positive comments about canal boating holidays, we decided to give it a try with two friends.

For years I have wanted to visit Rome, dreamed of seeing the colosseum and the Trevi Fountain. Finally, in September 2011, I had the good fortune to finally see the city and it’s sights for myself. We were going to be in Rome for 3 nights so, with so much to see, I made sure to have a good look through the guide book in advance. For most cities, I find this well worth doing and Rome is no exception. There is an awful lot to see and with some monuments only open on certain days, I would recommend looking in to your top attractions in advance of arriving in the city.
